Youth League kicks off at 11.30am and League Tag at 12.40pm.
We should see three very competitive games on Sunday with the Youth League and League Tag teams for both Grenfell and Trundle in good recent form.
The First Grade game will be a big challenge for the Goannas up against the premiership favourites who are undefeated so far this season.
DONNA JONES AND MARILYN HORNE MEMORIAL SHIELD
Last Saturday the Grenfell and Eugowra First Grade teams played the inaugural match for the Donna Jones and Marilyn Horne Memorial Shield.
Both these women lost their lives after battling cancer and this will be an annual event with Grenfell hosting it next season.
A number of Donna's daughters are currently playing League Tag with the Eugowra club whilst Marilyn was the wife of Grenfell stalwart and 300 gamer Mark Horne.
The day was run as a pink day with the Eugowra League Tag team wearing pink socks and playing jumpers whereas the Grenfell First Grade and League Tag teams and Eugowra First Grade all wore the pink socks.
Eugowra did a magnificent job of decorating their ground for the occasion including pink goal post pads, balloons, ground markings and streamers around the entire playing surface fencing.
All proceeds from the raffles, pink ball auction, donations and a contribution by the Grenfell club will go to the McGrath Foundation.
As part of proceedings, the referees were set the task of picking the player of the match and this resulted in a special presentation to the Goanna's front rower Stephen Ingram.
Congratulations to Eugowra and their committee for putting on such a great day and to the Grenfell Goannas who are now the proud holders of the shield.
YOUTH LEAGUE
Last Sunday our Youth League team travelled out to Trundle to take on the Boomers and they were able to come from behind to win a close tussle 26-22.
On the back of total domination of the ruck Trundle led 22 nil with five minutes left until half time however the Goannas were next to score through Ayden Eyles and they went to the break 16 points down.
The Goannas controlled possession in the second half by tightening up their own game whilst the Trundle boys made some handling errors and the visitors were able to chip away at the lead.
Adam Hewen scored the match winner with a couple of minutes to go and Grenfell were able to hold on in a tense final minute with Trundle on the attack and throwing everything at the Goannas defence.
Newcomer Kyle Croaker had a top game for the Goannas picking up the Players Player and the three best and fairest points with the two going to Jail Purdie and a point to Luke McDean.
Our try scorers were Jai Purdie (2), Luke McDean, Adam Hewen, and Ayden Eyles with Lachlan Stevens kicking 3 goals.
LEAGUE TAG
The Girlannas played the Eugowra Geagles last Saturday at Eugowra and came away with a comprehensive win on the scoreboard 48 nil but for the majority of the match it was very competitive against a determined local outfit.
After a tight start and Grenfell leading 8 nil after 20 minutes Zoe Gavin came off the bench and blew the game apart by scoring three tries in an eight minute burst that the Geagles never recovered from.
Best and fairest points went to Kristen Bryant (3), Chloe Madgwick (2), and Rachel Causer (1) with Chloe also picking up the Players Player. Tries were scored by Zoe Gavin (3), Cindy Lawler, Bridget Baker, Chloe Madgwick, Kristen Bryant, Naomi Boland, Chrystal Hucker and Shantell Reed with Chrystal kicking 3 goals and Bridget 1.
Congratulations to Alicia White, Breanna Anderson, and Zoe Gavin who represented Woodbridge Cup on Saturday morning.
They lost their first match against Group 11 but bounced back with an 18-6 victory over the Castlereagh Cup team.
FIRST GRADE
Last Saturday at Eugowra, the Goannas defeated the Eagles 84-12 after leading 30-6 at half time to claim the inaugural Donna Jones and Marilyn Horne Shield.
Eugowra did well to put together a 16-man squad for this match as a number of senior players have left their club in recent weeks.
The Eagles suffered a couple of early injuries but the inexperienced team did not stop trying with big efforts from Pete Barnes, Snow Jones, Toby Tanks, and Travis Woodbridge.
Best for Grenfell were Ty Ashe 3 points and Players Player with the 2 points going to hooker Travis Bryant and a point to fullback Dan Harveyson.
Grenfell scored 14 tries with 7 players scoring a try each whilst Desi Doolan scored a hat trick and there were doubles to Sam Ingram and Ricky Whitton.
A highlight for the Goanna's was the goal kicking of Mitchell Stevens who knocked them over from everywhere and did not miss any of his 14 conversion attempts.
