This was a fantastic weekend, showcasing our wonderful town and district.
Our special guest author Inga Simpson carried out her role to perfection and was welcomed home by all.
Officially commencing on Thursday with the children's play days at The Henry Lawson High School followed by the Art opening and announcement of winners, the whole weekend was filled to the brim.
A very successful concert was held at The Henry Lawson High School on Friday evening under the direction of Jennifer Kelly.
A great street procession with and "Ode to Winter" theme with the Grenfell Town and District Band and the Lithgow Highland Pipe Band certainly added to the atmosphere.
There were so many things to see and do from art galleries, quilt shows, sculpture gardens, busking, street art, stalls, car shows, woodchopping and more.
All Grenfell food outlets and 'watering holes' were all very well supported by locals and visitors.
Congratulations to Peter and Shirley Mawhinney and co from Grenfell Commodities on their prestigious Weddin Shire Arts Award for their masterpiece at the Grenfell Silos.
Don Needham and his sister Robyn Graham were the recipients of a "Certificate of Achievement" on behalf of their late aunty Elaine Needham. Dianne Pyers and Sue Brown were also the recipients of a "Certificate of Achievement" on behalf of their late father Bill Rudd. Elaine and Bill worked tirelessly over the years for the festival.
HAPPY BIRTHDAYS: On May 27, Hannah Gundry and Georgia Brenner celebrated their birthday with their friends Anna Hunt, Holly Gilbert and Caprhyse Lawler. They had a fun night at dinner at the Railway Hotel and a great birthday the next day. Georgia turned 16 and Hannah turned 15.
FAREWELL: After only after a very short stay with us, Fr Trenton Van Reesch has been appointed Administrator of the Cathedral in Canberra commencing on June 14.
It was rather short notice, but parishioners of St Joseph's managed to find time during a very busy Henry Lawson Festival to host a farewell morning tea after Mass last Sunday to thank Fr Trenton and wish him well for his new appointment and sincerely thank him for his generous and life giving ministry in the Young Mission.
On behalf of parishioners, St Joseph's Finance Chair, Terry Carroll presented Fr Trenton with an appreciation gift.
SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION: St Joseph's Parish Grenfell advise that there will be an important meeting after mass on June 30 for all parents of this year's sacramental candidates. Parents must attend this meeting in order for their children to celebrate the sacraments.
All three sacraments will be celebrated in St Joseph's parish this year. Candidates for Confirmation will be in Year 5 or above and will already have celebrated the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
Eligible candidates for First Reconciliation and First Communion will be in Year 4 or above.
Please contact Leslie King on 6343 1514 or (leslie.king@cg.catholic.edu.au) if you require further information regarding the sacraments.
GUINEA PIG RACING: The return of the world famous Guinea Pig Racing was a big hit at the Grenfell Country Club on Sunday.
Under the guidance of Danny Joyce and our beloved Madeleine Griffiths, the racing was underway around noon.
Hospital Auxiliary ladies were in attendance and collected a gold coin donation for entry, whilst members of Lions entertained the younger race goers with their famous jumping castle.
The garden setting in glorious sunshine and music by Axl Delandro and Jessie Thompson-Jones was enjoyed by all.
