Zoe Gavin was the first try scorer for League Tag against Canowindra last Sunday and Noel from the Railway Hotel Grenfell picked up the $220 after purchasing Zoe at the Calcutta. The syndicate of Ty Ashe and Mick Millar received the First Grade bonus of $320 when Desi Doolan in jersey 4 crossed the stripe first for the locals.
LEAGUE TAG MATCH REPORT
Last Sunday at Lawson Park saw the Girlannas defeat the Canowindra girls in an absolute thriller 18-16. Down 16-14 and with the hooter blaring in the background Grenfell played the ball centre field 20 metres out from their own line and spun it quickly to the right to winger Zoe Gavin who went on a weaving 85 metre run to score out wide. A great comeback win to the Girlannas who were down 16-8 with 10 minutes to go and got out of jail with the two late tries. It is hard not to feel for the Canowindra girls losing in those circumstances but they will be right in the mix this season if they keep that form going. Best & Fairest points went to Breanna Anderson (3), Anna Brenner (2), and the one point was shared by Zoe Gavin and Rachel Causer with Zoe also picking up the Players Player. Try scorers were Zoe Gavin (2), Alicia White, and Caprhyse Lawler with Chrystal Hucker kicking one conversion. Half time score Grenfell 8-4 and full time Grenfell 18 Canowindra 16.
FIRST GRADE MATCH REPORT
After leading 22-12 at halftime the Goannas went on to defeat the Canowindra Tigers 44-22 at Lawson Park last Sunday. Grenfell shot away to an early 10 nil lead but with some possession the Tigers were quick to return serve with two converted tries of their own and take a 12-10 advantage. The next 20 minutes saw some high quality end to end Rugby League until the Goannas blew the game apart with two converted tries in the final five minutes before half time. Grenfell opened the second half full of running and effectively had the match wrapped up at 38-10 with 20 minutes left on the clock. The game was evenly poised 5 minutes prior to half time but it was Grenfell who dominated this period and the first 10 minutes after half time. This crucial period before and after half time ultimately determined the winning and the losing of the game for both teams. Stephen Ingram was the Players Player whilst the Best & Fairest points went to Mick Millar (3), Dan Harveyson (2), and Brendan Hewen (1). Tries were scored by Dan Harveyson (2), Ty Ashe, Desi Doolan, Mitch Stevens, Brendan Hewen, Jeremy D'ombrain, and Mick Millar with Mitch knocking over 5 goals and Ty 1.
