In a departure from tradition, Entertainment Officer, Gwen Clark announced the Guest Speakers for May 20, due to the important information that will be provided by Wendy Scott, Manager of Assessment Services for Aged Care and Debra Tooley, Manager of District Aged Care Services for the Western Area.
These ladies are travelling from Parkes and all interested persons are invited to attend to learn as much as possible about the Services that are vital to our Age Group.
Secretary Halleen Schaefer read the minutes of the March meeting, followed by correspondence which included a request to contribute to seeking approval for a grant to relocate Memorial names at the Cenotaph to a higher level to improve accessibility for elderly people.
Treasurer Brian McDonald gave the Treasurer's report and Eunice Clarke won the draw for birthday of the month, after Social Secretary Rosalie White read Birthdays and Wedding anniversaries.
Advance notice was given to members that the Birthday luncheon this year will be held on Monday September 30.
Tourist Officer Nola Nobes announced a 4-day Barrington Tops Tour from September 16 - 19, costing $605 per person twin share and $800.00 single supplement with a deposit of $200 to be paid at the June meeting, in an envelope please, with the rest to be paid at the August meeting.
The coach will travel through Kandos to Singleton and the next day to Stroud, a town under National Trust classification, before travelling to Gloucester for 2 nights.
The next day will be spent in the World Heritage - listed Gondwana Rainforests of Barrington Tops National Park.
Jan Holland reported on the Mystery Trip which travelled through Temora to Coolamon to the Cheese factory, where cheese tasting with crackers and chutney was enjoyed and the afternoon was spent at the Junee Liquorice and Chocolate Factory, with thanks expressed to Nola and Loaders Coaches for an interesting day.
After morning tea, Entertainment Officer, Sally Norrie, introduced our Guest Speaker, Brendan Hayes, Director Environmental Services for Weddin Shire Council and the Health and Building Inspector.
Brendan, with the aid of a slide show, introduced members to the new Medical Centre, an up to date building designed to attract medical staff, with an interesting external feature on the Short Street wall.
Janice Hunter, on behalf of the Club, thanked Brendan and presented him with a small gift of appreciation.
Our next meeting will be held on Monday, May 20, with Sue Simpson and Helen Watt on the Door Roster and Graham and Diana Fisher, June Waters, Jim Neill and Elaine Hocking on the Morning Tea Roster.
