The festival starts on Thursday June 6 with the Art Exhibition Official Opening at the Grenfell Community Hub. On Friday night the concert at the Henry Lawson High School will showcase the local talent within our shire.
Saturday sees the streets of Grenfell come alive with the street parade, fun run and a whole swag of entertainment. A reinvigorated busking competition will be held with excellent prizemoney. 'Poetry on the Boards' recitations, Lithgow Highland Pipe Band, market stalls and a hotly contested wood chop are only a few of the things to feature on Saturday. In addition musicians will rove the Main Street to entertain and enchant. This year's official guest is Inga Simpson. Inga Simpson is an author, who studied at the Henry Lawson High School. Make sure you catch up with Inga and say hello. This year's festival theme is 'Ode to Winter' in acknowledgment of the weather we experience in June each year. We look forward to many interesting procession floats referencing the theme. The committee's goal if for this year's procession to be bigger and better than ever before. The art and photography exhibitions are still taking entries, you have until May 24, so it's not too late to enter. Visit our website for details.
On Sunday the festival will host 'While the Billy Boils' poetry at the Obelisk, the site marking Lawson's birthplace. There will be a camp fire with damper and billy tea. The festival also features a Vintage Car Show and Motor Display in the Main Street. A guided heritage bus tour, patchwork and quilting exhibitions are all open. Alternately you could take a drive out to Iandra Castle at Greenethorpe where you can take in the castle's elegance first hand.
This year the Guinea Pig Races are returning. The venue is the Country Club, so make sure to head out for a unique family friendly experience. On the Monday you can browse at the Chrysler Car Museum, or the Grenfell Historical Society Museum. This is just a taste of what you will be in store for when you make your way to Grenfell's Henry Lawson Festival. Alan Griffiths, festival president comments, "The 2019 Henry Lawson Festival is a great showcase of regional tourism!"
