Track-side at the Grenfell Racecourse was the place to be last Saturday, April 13, for the 2019 Picnic Races.
Once again a huge crowd was in attendance for this popular annual event with many travelling from near and far to be part of the race day action.
President of the Grenfell Picnic Club committee Danny Kotel said “Last Saturday the club hosted it's 70th Picnic Race Day with great success,”
“On behalf of the club I would like to thank all those who helped make this years race day another memorable event.”
The winner of Race #1 Anderson Realty/Australian Wool/Criterion Hotel Maiden plate was ‘Hardachak’ trained by T Sutherland ridden by Jody Hughes.
Race #2 The Railway Hotel Grenfell Picnic Bracelet was won by ‘Oh What a Thief’ trained by T Sutherland ridden by Jody Hughes.
Race #3 The Terry Bros/Landmark/Ausure Maiden Plate was won by ‘Bodice’ trained by S Jeffries ridden by Maddison Wright.
Race #4 Sweet Lauraine/ South West Tractors/Balance Accountants Class 2 Trophy Handicap was won by ‘My Girl Grace’ trained by RL McCabe ridden by Ricky Blewitt.
The feature race, Race #5, The Doug Allen Memorial Grenfell Picnic Cup was won by ‘Southern Gamble’ trained by D Gorrel ridden by Natasha Baxter.
The final race of the day was Race #6 the JJ O'Conner President’s Class 1 Trophy Handicap and was won by ‘King of Sting’ trained by T Sutherland ridden by Jody Hughes.
Congratulations to jockey Jody Hughes who won three of the six races at this years event.
And of course once again the Lachlan Fertilizers Fashions on the Field event was highly contested with the following winners taking home great prizes:
