Since then the club has provided an excellent day of racing, fashions and socializing.
Coincidentally, this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the formation of our ling time sponsors, The Lane Cove Rugby Legions.
Amidst one of NSW's worst droughts, the track and surrounds have been prepared as well as could be hoped, with recent rain providing some slight relief, but the efforts of several hard working volunteers have be much appreciated.
We are mindful, too, that an event such as ours is a welcome boost to the Grenfell community and the economy and that people of the local and surrounding areas look forward to Grenfell Picnic Races each year.
A large number of people have travelled many kilometres to be at the races, and we welcome and thank them all.
While in Grenfell don't miss the chance to chat to Henry Lawson or to visit the painted silos.
Sponsorship continues to be a vitally important component of the success of our race day.
The Fashions on the Field (sponsored by Lachlan Fertilizers Rural) continues to be a huge attraction at the picnic races and I am sure that today's chapter in this event's history will be fantastic.
This year, our guest host is Grace Eppelstun.
We must thank Ian and Hugh McAlister (McAlister Motors) for their continued support with the sponsors marquee and three men (Tommy, Britt & Wally) who have given so much to the Grenfell Picnic Race Club have pooled together to sponsor the Farmer's Bar.
We thank all of our race sponsors (listed in the program) who will assist in the presentation of a rug to the winner of their respective race.
We are very grateful, too, to the businesses that have donated produce (Grenfell Commodities, Riverview Grazing, Eugowra Produce and South Coast Cheese) or prizes for our trainers and jockeys (South West Fuels).
Grenfell IGA and Grenfell Pharmacy have sponsored today's entertainment for the kids with the face painting as well as Angie Day entertaining us after the last race.
Thanks to those who have made donations as well as all those who have helped make today possible.
We appreciate Loader's Coaches for helping to get people the races and back home safely.
Our thanks also go to the Grenfell Record and Chris' Bakery.
Today is about looking over the past 70 years ago, enjoying the present and looking forward to the future.
The Grenfell Racecourse Trust, The Grenfell Jockey Club and the Grenfell Picnic Race Club have combined their efforts and resources and applied for funding to assist in the upgrade of facilities at the racecourse.
We hope that you, as racegoers, enjoy your day at the races.
On behalf of the committee, I hope you all have a great day.
