After a huge electrical storm on Thursday afternoon, December 13, which recorded 29 millimeters of rain…and with more predicted for Friday, the Combined Service Club members were in a little quandary thinking it may have been the same as 2017 when the Christmas Carnival was called off just after lunchtime on Friday December 16.

The weatherman was on our side and the Carnival was held in very pleasant conditions on Friday evening, December 12, in the beautiful surrounds of Vaughn Park.
Unfortunately, quite a few other events were on the same evening including the Grenfell Preschool and Mobile Preschool graduations, the local Men’s Shed, Weddin Shire Council outdoor staff, the Veteran-Vintage Car Club and Lachlan Fertilizers Christmas parties.
Many from the Preschool attended after their graduation to meet Santa and enjoy the festivities.
Rotary members were kept busy selling their sausage sandwiches, kebabs and soft drinks, the Grenfell Town and District Band entertained everyone with Christmas carols, Lions club members operated the jumping castle for the littlies, sold Santa tickets and ran the chocolate wheel, where a number lucky residents won prizes including hams, Lions' Christmas cakes and chickens.
The Henry Lawson High School Leo Club students worked hard on the face painting stall throughout the evening, as well as assisting Lions members with the jumping castle and chocolate wheel duties.
Thank you to Weddin Shire Council for the bins and barricades, NSW Fire & Rescue Grenfell who transported Santa to the venue, Grenfell SES who provided lighting, all stall holders, Grenfell Hospital Auxiliary, Frank Freudenstein, Steve the Ice Cream man and Leanne & Mark Staunton with the Coffee Kart who all added to the very successful outcome. A special thank you to Santa, who was received with open arms by most of the children. Some were a little shy.
Mayor of Weddin Shire Mark Liebich was on hand to announce the winners of the Christmas Lights/Display with their prizes and certificates, however all three winners were unable to attend for the announcement. Winners were: First – Libby Noble (Berrys Road), Second – Wayne Hewen (South Street) and Third – Mark Horne (Rose Street).
Mark congratulated the Combined Service Clubs on their continued effort providing/running the Carnival for the community over many years. He also made a very special mention of our Town Band who never fail to entertain.
Thank you to the town and district community for supporting the 2018 Combined Service Clubs Christmas Carnival.
