Bryan Crow said, “Terry, Lyndel and I are ambassadors of New Age Caravans.”
Terry works for New Age Caravans and is on the road most of the time promoting New Age and meeting New Age Caravan owners. Lyndel and I retired June last year, also travelling full time. Our caravan has been our home since then. We have been caravanning for 6 years. Chris and Ross have been retired for about 8 years and live on the Mornington Peninsula, travelling north for the winter months to avoid the cold.
Lyndel and l run the New Age Tribe, which is an owner’s club for owners of New Age Caravans. The first meeting/event for the Tribe (formerly New Age Owners Club) was in July 2014.
We organise and hold 9 events throughout the year, in all States around Australia. Generally, around 40 vans attend these events.
We are always visiting towns and on the look-out, trying to find towns with loads of interesting things to visit as well as having a venue which could accommodate 40 or more vans. Chris and Ross are friends we met at a Tribe event over 3½ years ago and chat with regularly. They were heading back towards their home and were at Dubbo and when they knew we were headed towards Grenfell they changed their original trip plan to catch up.
We meet up with and bump into other Tribe members away from our events frequently, sometimes spending days or weeks travelling together. We and many or our Tribe friends travel and try to find places to stay which don’t over extend the budget, namely Free Camps, Hotel Stays, Farm Stays and designated RV friendly stop-overs.
It was a pleasure to find the Lions Club Park with its clean amenities, sheltered cooking BBQ, fresh water and black water dump point within walking distance to town with so much history and so many lovely old buildings. We all hope that the local Council continues to offer such a well maintained area for the nomads and visitors to the town.
The lady working at the Information Centre (Claire McCann) was absolutely lovely with loads of information about the history of Grenfell and places to visit - Really refreshing. We all left Grenfell after an enjoyable stay and have plans to return and spend more time looking around further. To the Lions Club Committee and Council, travellers like ourselves will always return and support the small local businesses if a town is seen to make travellers so welcome”.
The group enjoyed lunch and or dinner at the hotels and coffee shops around town, filled up with fuel and headed to Barmedman for their Tractor Pull. From there they are off to Henty from October 18 -22. As you can see they were very taken with the town, the people and the hospitality.
NOSTALGIC VISIT: John and Elizabeth (Liz) O’Rafferty enjoyed a visit to Grenfell last weekend. John’s parents were Ted and Shirley who lived on a 3,300 acre property “Brundah” which they said backed onto Smith’s at “Yambira”. The Brundah School was on O’Rafferty’s property. John attended school at Brundah from 1961 -1965 with the ones he can remember – Diprose, Dykes, Hughes, Taylor and Bembrick families. The Headmaster from 1962-1963 was Syd Dunstall. John and Liz who have lived at Bonny Hills near Port Macquarie for thirty five years were on their way to visit Junee where John was born.
THLHS Class of 74: The planned school reunion (Years 1st Form 1964 to HSC Year 1969) has been confirmed with the date being May 18 2019. Carol (Phillips) Troy’s contact number for ex students is 0429795091.
Carol is also seeking photos of the period. Forward photos via email to troyphil51@gmail.com. Carol asks if anyone with skills in collating this for electronic display would be greatly appreciated.
VISITING FROM THE BIG SMOKE: Trevor Hahn from Constitution Hill and Graeme Elder from Chester Hill paid a visit to George Hampton enroute to Temora for the Air Show. They enjoyed a night out to dinner at the Railway Hotel. Trevor’s sister is married to George’s son Allan.
