Harvey, Watt tennis winners

Charles Harvey and Graham Watt were too strong for the opposition to cruise to victory in Round 8 of the Grenfell Men's 2018 Spring Tennis Competition on Tuesday night.

Charles and Graham were in great form all evening to win all their sets 5/3, 7/1, 6/2, 5/3, 6/2 for a total of 29 games for the night.

Well played Charles and Graham.

Graham was a fill-in on the night for Rod Freudenstein.

Stuart McKellar and his partner for Round 8, Rick Power, were next best pair, winning a total of 21 games.

They commenced the round losing their first set 3/5, levelled the second set 4/4, were too strong in their third set, winning  comfortably 7 games to 1.

They then kept the good work up to win the fourth set 5/3, however they found Charles and Graham too strong to go down 2/6 in their last set of the night.

Two pairs won 19 games each.

They were Grant Fisher and the promising Charlie Mitton and Anthony Wilson who partnered with Pat Hazell.

Charlie was a fill-in for Mark Liebich and he and Grant played consistent tennis to level two of their sets 4/4, 4/4, lost two sets 3/5, 3/5 and played well to win their last set 5/3.

Anthony and Pat also played consistent tennis to only lose one of their sets 1/7.

They won 5/3, 5/3 and levelled the last two sets 4/4, 4/4.

Great tennis for the four men.

The other two pairs taking part in Round 8, Danny Edwards and John Walmsley and Grahame Edwards and Arnold Brown each won 16 games for the night.

Danny was filling in for Andrew Bucknell and Danny and John lost their first set 3/5, won the second 5/3, then went down 1/7, levelled the fourth 4/4 and lost their last set 3/5.  Grahame and Arnold had mixed results.

They levelled two of their sets 4/4, 4/4 and lost the other three sets 3/5, 2/6 and 3/5.

The men will now play Round 9 of their Spring Tennis Competition next Tuesday night, October 16, weather permitting.

They just edged out Esma Baker and Courtney Taylor who won 17 games.

Lynne Peterson and Sandra Matthews were next best winning a total of 13 games, closely followed by Sally Mitton and Jan Myers winning 12 games for the night.

It was just too wet for social tennis last Thursday afternoon, October 4, but no one complained as the lovely rain of 23 mm was very much needed.

Anyone that would like a friendly hit of tennis on Thursday  afternoon would be made most welcome.

Play commences at around 1.30 pm.
