Despite recent drought conditions the Grenfell track was in excellent condition for the six race program and weather conditions could not have been more perfect for the big day.
Huge crowds turned out in their finest attire with the popular Fashions on the Field once again being highly contested.
This years fashion winners were:
Most Outstanding Hat: Sally Mitton, Best Dressed Couple: Amber Atkins and Reece Reid, Best Dressed Gent: Will Linder, Most Elegant Lady: Emma Wells, Fashion Filly: Lauren Payne, Junior Girl: Tara Schaefer, Tiny Tot Girl: Daisy McMahon and Tiny Tot Boy: Frank McMahon, congratulations to all the 2018 Fashion on the Field recipients.
The Grenfell Town and District band once again entertained racegoers with the Grenfell Lion’s Club providing entertainment for the children.
Students from The Henry Lawson High School class of 1998 also enjoyed their 20 year reunion at the racecourse with many of the classmates coming home to Grenfell for the special occasion.
The feature race on the day, The Grenfell Cup (2000 mtrs), saw seven starters with the winner being Bathurst trained by Dean Mirfir, ‘Sovereignaire’ ridden by jockey Ken Dunbar.

Winner of the Loaded Dog – Benchmark Handicap (1400 mtrs) was ‘Smart Attire’ trained by Karen McCarroll also ridden by jockey Ken Dunbar of Dubbo, this race saw the fourth win for the day for this talented jockey, also a winning double on the Wayne Collison, Narromine trained pair ‘Bring A Beer Along’ and ‘Some Nights’.
