Grenfell’s poppies are at varying stages of growth with splashes of red increasing every day. Hopefully our town will be proud of this recognition of Remembrance Day. Smaller plants still have plenty of time to mature before 11.11.18 but many plants have started flowering earlier than anticipated due to the unfavourable drought conditions. Plants already starting to bloom will need extra care to extend their life into November.

*Cut off seed pods once the petals have fallen cutting close to the main stem. Removal of the pods will also prevent the spread of seeds once the pods dry.
*Staking or tying back may be needed if the windy weather continues.
*Water at the base on the plants remembering a good soaking is better than frequent light watering.
*Do not fertilize as this will promote green growth rather than flowers. A big thank you to all to are taking part in this community project.
