Ross and Elaine Pereira of Cowra, formerly of ‘Springvale’ Grenfell, recently visited long-time friends, Neville and Pam Simpson in Bourke.
During Ross and Elaine’s visit they became involved in helping the local CWA unpack six pallets of goods for drought relief sent by concerned residents of Melbourne.
Bourke branch president Pam Simpson said the donations were a symbol of the concern of the town’s city cousins who waned to help in any way they could.
“We don’t want to take business away from local shops and they need support from us, but these donations are one way that people feel they can do something and we are very grateful,” said Pam.
“The other way they can help is with vouchers.”
Anyone who wants to help out during the drought can donate vouchers from IGA or local fuel stations, which can be distributed through the Rural Financial Counselling Service.
