‘The Call of the Wild’ by The Wilderists Inc. is the current exhibition on display at the Grenfell Art Gallery and will be showing until October 14.
"wilderism" n. represents artists that go into the wilderness to seek inspiration and connection to 'place' through direct experience. These artists then create from their heart without regard for accepted ways of creating but rather seek to develop through loose and energetic techniques the raw forces seen in nature itself.
In the heart of New South Wales, Australia, a group of creators launched the wilderism arts movement. Artists have always wandered through the landscape, stopping and wondering in awe at sublime moments and inspiring sights/sites. The Wilderists are a group of such artists, photographers and poets.
One of the members, Diana Bell-Brooks will recite one of her works at the opening to demonstrate another dimension of what their group does. Diana has had her work published in a anthology of Australian poems ‘Wild’.
