WOMEN’S BOWLS –
With the scribe absent for several days this week, there has not been a great deal to report.
However, on the plus side, we apparently had a new lady join the bowlers on Thursday.
President Kathy gave one-on one lessons to Lexie.
She was very impressed with her prowess on her first outing and was asked warmly to join us again.
Names are going up for the singles and pairs and it is very encouraging to see several new participants. Hopefully, a couple more will go up prior to closure.
There will be a couple of members absent this week as they are going to barrack for the Mens No7 Pennant team in the State play-off.
We wish them every success.
Don't forget bowls Thursday morning and Saturday afternoon. All welcome.
Recycled Ditcher.

INDOOR BOWLS –
The Grenfell Indoor Bowlers played a different format last Tuesday afternoon with ten players available we decided to play one mat with five players a side and this worked out quite well, as not all bowls finished up on the mat so it didn’t cause too much concern for the skips trying to reach the jack.
The group played 16 ends with the team of Tom, Marie, Mavis, Anne and Ted defeating Mark, Maureen, Allen, Anka and Jeanie with a final result of 19 shots to 13.
It appears at this stage that the Tuesday afternoon bowls might have been the club’s saviour, as only three or four players were turning up on recent Friday evenings bowls.
So with a bit of a change, switching to Tuesdays, and some advertising, we may have saved our game, for the present day anyway, so let’s all keep it going, we would love to see as many as possible on the mats next Tuesday afternoon.

GRENFELL PUBLIC SCHOOL –
DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Last Friday almost 40 qualifying students from Grenfell Public School travelled to Cowra to compete in the Cowra District Athletics Carnival.
All of the Grenfell Public School representatives did an absolutely fantastic job representing the school.
The day was filled with hot competition, especially in the 100m and 200m races. GPS athletes were great competitors and lucky to have a very supportive cheer squad.
Staff are so proud of all their efforts and it was a pleasure taking such a fantastic group of students away.
Information will be sent home soon with those who were successful in securing a place in the Cowra team to compete in Dubbo in a few weeks time.

Racing industry mourns loss of Terry Kiely
The racing industry is mourning the loss of Cowra’s Terry Kiely, a well-known bookmaker in the Central Western Districts for more than 60 years.
Terry was a member of City Tatts and came from a strong bookmaking family, with his Dad, Jack, a bookie as is his brother, Warwick.
"Dad had some big clients during his time including Frank Duval (The Hong Kong Tiger) and Felipe Ysmael (The Filipino Fireball)," recalled Terry's son, Clayton.
"He would go anywhere to meetings and I remember Dad bookmaking at Parkes races and then travelling to Bulli trots afterwards. It's a five-hour drive now so it would have been a much longer trip back in those days."
Mr Kiely is survived by wife Heather, children Paul, Leigh, Clayton and Alison, and his extended family.
Terry's family and friends and members of the racing community attended his funeral at St Raphael's Catholic Church Cowra, yesterday Monday, August 13.
Donations were also taken for the Men of League Foundation; a charity to support members of the rugby league community.
The Kiely family has had a long association with the Cowra Magpies Rugby League Club.

Emerging female leaders encouraged to apply for sporting grants
Sport Australia CEO Kate Palmer said the sporting industry must maintain a commitment to greater gender diversity and inclusiveness, encouraging eligible candidates to apply for the Women Leaders in Sport program.
While there has been a surge in female sport in recent years, creating more professional opportunities for athletes, Palmer said the industry still needed to work hard to address the under-representation of females in sporting roles as administrators, coaches and officials.
Palmer said the Women Leaders in Sport program had been part of a long-term commitment to develop the leadership potential of women in sport.
“The Women Leaders in Sport program was established in 2002 to develop more female administrators, coaches and officials in sport, and has supported more than 24,000 women over that time,” Palmer said.
“The success and longevity of this program is significant, but as the profile of women in sport continues to rise, Sport Australia remains committed to supporting the leaders of the future.”
The Women Leaders in Sport program for 2019 comprises Leadership Workshops for individuals and organisations, as well as development grants of up to $3,000 (individuals), and up to $20,000 (organisations).
Sport Australia, the new public brand for the Australian Sports Commission, will continue to jointly fund the program with Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Office for Women.
Applications for the Development Grants and Leadership Workshops are now open and will close on 5 September 2018.
