RUGBY LEAGUE
GOANNAS AND GIRLANNAS AT HOME THIS SATURDAY
Tomorrow (Saturday, July 21) at Lawson Park we will be hosting Eugowra and it is important to note that the game times will be as per Sunday game times. League Tag will kick off at 12.40pm and First Grade at 2.00pm.
We will also welcome to the ground the 1988 and 1998 premiership winning teams who will be celebrating their respective 30 year and 20 year reunions. Later in the evening, we will be holding our Reverse Draw fundraiser at the Bowling Club and there are still tickets available.
For tickets or more information contact Mark Horne (0401 526 330) or Gary Holmes (0402 804 606). Below are the match reports for our games against Trundle last Saturday at Berryman Oval.
LEAGUE TAG
Although down on troops with only ten players making the trip to Trundle and minus their coach the Girlannas survived a scare from a youthful Trundle outfit last Saturday. Grenfell led 8-4 at half time after a mistake riddled first 30 and were having trouble containing their speedy opposition who were breaking the Girlannas defensive line.
In the second half the Girlannas found their rhythm and they showed their experience to shut out Trundle and come away with a gutsy 28-4 victory.
Best and Fairest points went to Zoe Gavin (3), Anna Brenner (2), and Holly Bowerman (1) with Anna picking up the players player.
Try scorers were Holly (2), Anna (2), Zoe and Caitlin Dixon with Rachel Causer and Bridget Baker each kicking a goal.
FIRST GRADE
The Goannas were able to bring to an end the 22 consecutive game winning streak of Trundle when they prevailed 32-22 at Berryman Oval last Saturday.
Ironically the last time the Boomers tasted defeat was against Grenfell on the 4/6/2017 at Berryman Oval. This match took a similar path to many of the Goannas games this year in that they outmuscled the opposition in the first 60 minutes to set up a match winning lead (30-10) and then had to grimly hold on against a fast finishing Trundle.
It was only some desperate last ditch defence that enabled the Goannas to claim a well deserved win after conceding 5 straight penalties and making 4 non completions at one stage in the last 20 minutes.
Players player and 3 best and fairest points went to Ricky Whitton with Mena Aditagane picking up the 2 and 1 to Brendon Hewen.
Tries were scored by Mena (2), Jarryd Foley, Joe Herden, Phil Ingram, and Sam Ingram with 3 goals to Josh Bateman and 1 to Phil.

LOCAL YOUTH SPORT, ART & EDUCATION ORGANISATIONS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR $1.2 MILLION FUNDING
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke is encouraging local organisations supporting youth to apply for the second round of Community in Partnership Taking Action (COMPACT) grants. Ms Cooke said $1.2 million is available to community groups for innovative programs to support local young people.
"Our local youth service providers and community organisations play a vital role in ensuring our young people are safe, happy, healthy and connected," Ms Cooke said.
"I encourage every local youth services provider and community organisation to apply for this outstanding opportunity to join the COMPACT Alliance."
Minister for Multiculturalism and Disability Services Ray Williams said more than 20,000 young people have already benefitted from the COMPACT program in NSW.
"Existing partners such as the NRL and PCYC offer young people who may feel disconnected invaluable life and leadership skills, and mentoring support."
"Many of the young people I have met who have participated in our COMPACT programs are now leading positive, meaningful lives, which is why we are extending this initiative," Mr Williams said.
COMPACT partnerships are valued at $50,000 to $150,000 annually for up to two years, across a range of sectors including arts, sports and education.
Applications must be presented in a partnership of relevant community, non-government, youth, sports, arts/media or educational groups to be eligible. For more information about how you can join the Alliance, visit http://multicultural.nsw.gov.au/communities/compact_program/
