Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke visited the site adjacent to the Grenfell Multi-Purpose Service last Saturday, July 7, to make the official announcement.
“This is a significant milestone in the NSW Government’s election commitment to build a new station at Grenfell as part of the $122 million Rural Ambulance Infrastructure Reconfiguration (RAIR) program,” Ms Cooke said. “Health Infrastructure, NSW Ambulance, Western NSW Local Health District along with Weddin Shire Council are all working together to deliver this vital piece of infrastructure for Grenfell.”
The new station will feature facilities that are a major improvement on the current 120-year old station in Main Street, enabling local paramedics to better meet the mobile emergency medical care needs of Grenfell and surrounds for many years to come. Mayor Mark Liebich said the milestone is well worth celebrating, “This new Ambulance Station is yet another step in improving health services in the Weddin Shire,” he said.
NSW Ambulance Duty Operations Manager Daniel Clark said the location was carefully chosen to service the needs of the community. “The new site at will enable local NSW Ambulance paramedics to respond efficiently to the current and future demand for emergency medical care in Grenfell and surrounds,” Mr Clark said.
NSW Health Infrastructure Communications Manager Emma Gosper who attended the site for the announcement said, “The next step will be finalising the design and submitting a Development Application to council, this should be completed by September and once approved a contractor will be appointed to begin construction. The new station will be designed to service the community well into the future.”
Also present for the announcement were local paramedics Paul Westman and Andrew Noble, Shire Councillors Phil Diprose, Carly Brown, Craig Bembrick, Jan Parlett and Stephen O'Byrne, Weddin Shire GM Glenn Carroll, Chair of Weddin Health Council Peter Moffitt, Peter Spedding and Grenfell Health Service Manager Pauline Rowston.
