MEN'S WINTER TENNIS
Twelve men commenced their Winter Tennis Competition on Tuesday night with the playing of Round 1.

After some great competitive tennis, Michael Mitton and Ben Walker emerged the winners of the round with the good score of 29 games.
Michael and Ben won their first two sets in fine style 6/2, 6/2, then were too strong in the third set, winning 7/1 and their fourth set was another 6/2 win, however, they battled away in their last set against the runners-up, Grahame Edwards and Steve Walker to tie the set at 4 all.
Well played, Michael and Ben.
Grahame Edwards and Steve Walker won a total of 27 games for the night.
They scored a 5/3 win in their first set of the night then played top tennis to win 6/2, 6/2, 6/2 and as mentioned above levelled the last set 4/4 against Michael and Ben.
A good round for the two men.
Next best players were Danny Joyce and Leigh Taylor winning a total of 22 games.
Leigh was a fill in for Rick Power. Danny and Leigh had mixed results with scores of 3/5, 4/4,1/7, 8/0, 6/2. Stuart McKellar and Rod Freudenstein managed to win a total of 16 games for the night.
Their sets were 4/4, 2/6, 2/6, 3/5, 5/3, while Charles Harvey and Arnold Brown battled away in their sets to win a total of 15 games.
Sets were 2/6, 4/4, 4/4, 2/6, 3/5.
The other pair taking part, Graham Watt and Pat Hazell won 14 games for the round. Sets were 4/4, 2/6, 4/4, 2/6, 2/6.
The men will now play Round 2 next Tuesday night, June 26, weather permitting.
The Winter Competition will only be played over 6 rounds. This will then allow the 2018 Spring Night Tennis Competition to commence early and then be finalised before harvest.
Providing there are no postponements due to wet weather the Winter Competition should be finalised by Tuesday, July 24.
Players are requested, if they are unable to play on any night should make every effort to find themselves a fill in. Arnold Brown will have a list of fill ins that may be available.
INTER TOWN A WASH OUT
The 2nd Round of the Inter Town Tennis Competition was to have been played at Grenfell last Sunday, June 17, however, the courts were left awash after consistent showers accompanied by lousey conditions and the round was called off.
The third Round will be played at Forbes on Sunday, July 1 when the four teams taking part in the competition, Grenfell, Forbes, West Wyalong and Temora will do battle for the competition points.
Any tennis player looking for an enjoyable and friendly game are most welcome to join in at social tennis held on Thursday afternoon at the Grenfell Tennis Centre commencing at around 1.30 pm.
