Mount Stromlo Observatory is the headquarters of the ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, a world-respected community of researchers exploring the heavens.
Members of the public and school groups are welcome to come and explore the Visitor Centre and Heritage trail, and join in with activities such as stargazing or talks.
Angus spent much of his week being supervised and tutored by Dr Brad Tucker, an astrophysicist/cosmologist who is a Research Fellow at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Mt. Stromlo Observatory at the Australian National University.
Whilst at Mount Stromlo, Angus attended a conference on astrophysics.
He met the Head of ABC radio and had the opportunity to attend an observing night with and speak to speak with Professor Michael Dopita who was given a six million dollar grant to work on the 2.3 metre telescope at Sliding Springs Observatory.
Australia’s space program plans and ambitions, along with various telescopes and advanced optics and laser ranging facilities were also some of the activities Angus was able to take part in.
Angus had a wonderful and exciting week and as a result of his work experience, he has set his sights on working in this area of Science when he finishes Year 12.
