The Lions Club of Grenfell does amazing work with and for the community.
They are passionate, committed, friendly and supportive. Each year the Lions enter a candidate in the Henry Lawson Festival Queen competition, and this year I was the lucky one to be chosen. They asked me and I accepted the offer straight away.
It was a very busy few months with lots of fundraising and events to organise.
Our fundraising was very successful and everyone had a great time, we held wood raffles, meat raffles, mini lotto, street stalls, catering at the Grenfell Rodeo and barbecues. Thank you to Bernadette Dykhoff for allowing us to use her beautiful home as the perfect venue for our Casserole Night and all of her wonderful cooking.
Special thanks to the management, staff and patrons of the Railway Hotel for their outstanding support of our meat raffles, to the Lions and their families for providing beautiful cooking, produce, jams etc for the street stall and Casserole evening.
I attended different events for the Festival including the opening of the Art Exhibition, the Festival Concert, the Official Luncheon and the Festival Awards Dinner.
We also entered a float in the procession and thank you to those who assisted with this. Thank you to the Henry Lawson High School Leos Club members who supported me on the float.
It was a very busy time, but well worth it because we raised $12984.75 of which 15% retained by the Henry Lawson Festival Committee and the remainder reimbursed to the Lions Club. This is in addition to the $1350 sponsorship to Festival by the Lions Club.
One of the projects the Lions want to undertake is to install a shower in an extension of the Toilet block at the Railway Station Complex.
With the money raised I was crowned Charity Queen, but all the candidates put in an amazing effort to raise money also. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and I am so grateful for everyone’s help and support.
Congratulations to Hannah Robinson, the Grenfell Public School entrant on being named Henry Lawson Festival Queen 2018.
Thank you to Courtney Liebich, Queen co-ordinator who was very supportive and friendly, alongside the Festival Committee. Thank you to my family, especially Cathie Logan and my Fiancée Brent - my number one cheerleader all the way from the US and my sister Lisa for coming to celebrate with me this weekend, the four other beautiful contestants making it a world of fun and Chris Moran and Kathryn Williams, Terry and Deidre Carroll and Mary and Allan Stokes and to anyone who donated to any of our events, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. However, the biggest thanks go to the Lions Club. They do a tremendous job within the community and I was very excited to be chosen by them as their candidate. The Festival, however, would not have been as successful as it was without the contribution of the Grenfell community. Thank you all for your generosity and support.
