The Festival committee is delighted to announce that Alison Bell will be the 2018 Official Festival guest.
Born in Young, Alison Bell spent her early life in Grenfell, moving to Canberra in 1984. Educated in the Nation’s capital she looked set for a different career, completing an Arts/Law degree at the ANU in 2001, but she promptly took off for Melbourne where she enrolled at drama school. Since graduating from the VCA in 2004, Alison has worked consistently in theatre and television. Most recently Alison starred in The Letdown, an ABC/Netflix International co-production which she created and wrote with Sarah Scheller. For the Pilot episode Alison and Sarah won the 2016 AACTA award for Best Screenplay in Television, Alison also earned an AACTA nomination for her performance.
Alison has a wide array of film and theatre credits, and the Grenfell community are thrilled to welcome her home as the Festival’s official guest.
The festival theme this year is ‘Poetry in Motion’. A thesaurus suggests many words to describe such movement eg; Graceful, smooth, beautiful, delicate, elegant, lithe, rhythmic, supple, controlled, dainty, flowing, harmonious, practised, skilled, springy etc. The theme is carried across a number of aspects of the Festival such as the Children’s competitions and Street Parade.
The 2018 Festival boasts a huge line-up of exhibitions, events and entertainment for all tastes and ages. Art and photography exhibitions, short story and verse competitions, a colourful street procession, children's rides, street entertainment including busking and live music, annual festival fun run and street stalls as well as the popular Sunday car show that seems to be expanding each year are just a few of the wonderful events taking place over the Festival weekend.
