CANBERRA VISITORS: Shirley and Elwyn Turner were delighted to have a visit from Shirley's School friend, Nancy Irvin (Read) from Canberra. Nancy and her siblings, Max and Dudley Read and their parents lived in Young Street. After attaining her Higher School Certificate in Grenfell, Nancy attended Wagga Teacher's College. Other students who also attended College at the same time were Joyce Lawler (Croker), Pat Clarke (O'Loughlin) and John Briggs. For many years Shirley and Nancy had lost touch, but thanks to modern Technology were able to renew their friendship.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY:
Teddy Simpson celebrated her birthday with an afternoon tea at her home with family on Friday May 25. To top a great birthday, Teddy was also the winner of the Lions Street Stall competition which was raising funds for her future granddaughter in law – May Suzuki.
LIONS FRIENDS: On our recent trip to Townsville for the Multiple District Lions Convention we met up with Liz and Graham Mackay from the Croydon Lions Club in Victoria. Coincidentally we had first met them some years ago at a MD Convention in either Tasmania or Melbourne and back then, when they heard we came from Grenfell they asked if we knew their relations - Greg and Wendy Bowerman. It was amazing to see them again this time on the top of Castle Hill the red granite monolith dominating the city centre where you can climb to the top for views of the city and surrounding islands. We were fortunate to have former Grenfell resident Allan Cluff and his wife Carol who now live in Townsville meet up with us after the Convention and show us the major tourist attractions.
PRESENTATIONS: On Sunday morning during Mass at St Joseph’s, four long time serving parishioners were very surprised when they were each presented with a Papal Blessing.
Parish Priest, Father Tom Thornton made the presentations to Nancy Bradtke, Kath Parker, Rosalie White and Judy McInnes for their outstanding voluntary contributions to their special ministries within the parish for many years. Kath Parker was pleasantly surprised to have most of her children including Anthony, Greg and his wife Maree, Richard, Paul and Margaret Anderson present as well as grandchildren Rose Parker and Keira Anderson. Kath was under the impression that they would not be home for the Festival as they had other commitments and chose to have a family get-together this weekend. Nancy Bradtke’s children Barry and his wife Sharyn, her daughter Sandra and grandson Glenn Matthews also surprised her at the presentation. Nancy’s family arrived early and were upstairs in the choir area. Following Mass a special morning tea was held in the school library. Kay Fowler has been back in Grenfell for a visit and was present for the presentations. As well as family, she is looking forward to catching up with as many people as possible before her return home to Port Macquarie. She will be around till after the Festival.
WALLANGREEN: The Wallangreen Sculpture Park, Garden and Gallery, Cnr of Melyra St and Fitch's Lane will be open June 8, 9 and 10 from 10am-4pm during the HLF. Metal sculptures are realistic, quirky and thought provoking. Entry is $5 (children free accompanied by adult). Proceeds will be distributed to the Grenfell Mens Shed, Grace Inc and the HLF.
SINCERE SYMPATHY: Sincere Sympathy is extended to families who have lost loved ones recently including, Genele (Gen) Margaret Browne, Colin Vincent Ritchie, Barry Raymond O’Connor, Norman John Anderson, Colin Anthony Shrimpton, Wilfred Raymond Brown, Neville Michael Condon, William (Bill) George Blake and former residents Norma Jean Hall (Coff’s Harbour) and Keith Simpson (Goulburn). Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.
Keith Simpson’s funeral will be held in the Presbyterian Church Clifford St, Goulburn on Wednesday June 6 at 11am.
