They recognise that number patterns can involve more than one operation and that calculators may be required to test theories for patterns which increase or decrease by large amounts.

Their number pattern work will now be related to further work on place value and addition and subtraction using larger numbers.

The students have really enjoyed exploring number patterns and testing theories.

In Religious Education this term, the students are learning about prayer as it relates to the sacramental life of the Church.

The students will be learning about forgiveness and reconciliation as well as what it means for people to live their lives as Eucharistic people.

They will come to know that each of the sacraments have signs, symbols and rituals associated with them.

In English, the students are continuing to work on their own free writing texts.

They are being encouraged to try writing texts that are based on less familiar topics.

This means that they also need to branch out in their reading in order to discover new pathways and ideas for writing.

Another important part of English this term is learning and preparing poems for the Henry Lawson Festival Recitation Day.

All of the students are well into their preparations and are learning how to project their voices and use facial expressions and gestures to enhance the enjoyment for the audience. 

They are also learning how to be prompters and how to accept prompting if and when it is required.

Some children have chosen to recite poems they have written themselves which will make a pleasant change for the judges.

Japanese lessons have the students learning how to say the days of the week in Japanese.

Sensei Ken always offers the students new ways of learning about Japanese culture and language including drawing apps, art work, songs, quizzes, crafts and games. 

The students were also interested to learn that in Japan there is a Children’s Day.

They think that Australia should adopt the same idea!

In Visual Art, the students will be looking at works by different artists to discover the different ways in which artists choose to use colour.

The first artist we are studying is Ken Done and the students quickly recognised that he likes to represent familiar objects using simple lines and bright colours.

The children worked hard at this subject and created some wonderful masterpieces.
