Ray managed to keep Steve in check during the early part of the match, with the score even at 13-all after 18 ends. However, Steve began to dominate after that, winning the 19th end by four shots and then hitting top form to win eight of the remaining 10 ends and take out the match by a convincing 31-15. The win is a major achievement for Steve, having won the prestigious Championship a total of nine times. As well, he has contested the final for 11 of the past 12 years.
In the Minor Singles Championship, Barry Bradtke sailed into the final after defeating Gav Johnson 31-23. This was an entertaining, hard-fought match with the scores remaining fairly even throughout.
Meanwhile, a reminder that the draws for the Major and Minor Pairs are on the notice board. Although some matches have already been decided, the bowls committee are keen to see both competitions finalised by June 30. Teams are urged to arrange their matches, by mutual agreement, and complete them as soon as they can.

Harris’s ‘Brevities’ : Some more words of wisdom from the late Australian champion of last century, R T Harrison:
“Many men have inherited the gift of ‘taking it’. Others are handicapped and can’t ‘take it’ so easily. Don’t be too ready to condemn the latter, they often possess virtues that you may lack.”
“No player, however bad, will acknowledge that he is as bad as the rest think he is. Such a trait is an advantage, rather than a drawback.”
Jackpot: To win the jackpot this week you needed a score of –3 on end 12, on an even-numbered rink. There were no winners so next week the jackpot will jump to $210.
