Many thanks to the hard working team behind the scenes that organised such a successful day. As well as the army of volunteers on the day who baked up a storm serving the hungry masses, refereed, sold raffle tickets and finally packed it all up until next year!
U12s: The under 12s contined their improvement from last week with a strong showing against the Tumut Bull ants. The team flew out of the blocks and before you could blink had 2 tries on the board to Alex Nowlan and Owen Heffer. Not to be outdone Johnny Lebroque picked up the ball on halfway and ran like a gazelle all the way to the try line. Unfortunately he had the ball knocked out of his hand while scoring. This started a revival by Tumut. They went on to score 4 unanswered tries to sneak ahead of the boys. The second game was against the Young crustaceans. We had played them only the week previously and were soundly beaten. This time the team had learned from their mistakes and played with great enthusiasm. There were some great backline raids one finishing in a try to Owen Heffer. The forwards played with much improved continuity and the whole team enjoyed a lot more possession. Fantastic games from Alex Nowlan, Billy Wilson and Archie Metcalfe in the backs and Johnny Lebroque and Hugh Allen in the forwards.
U14s: Another perfect day for rugby again with the Under 14,s taking on Temora down at RB Bembrick oval, Temora came out blazing laying down quite a few tries in the first half, this was a bit of a shock to the boys, but after a stern talking to at half time a rejuvenated team hit the field to score there first try for the day, a great forward play with Riley,Hugh and Hamish giving a great platform for Oscar to score his first meat pie. Grenfell lost the game but Temora only scored once in the second half as did Grenfell
With a coke and a steak sandwich under there belts, the boys took on Cootamundra, the backline consisting off Gus, Ollie ,Tyler , with some crunching tackles and some terrific line breaks , the outlook is positive for the team to be moving forward. Rhys and Kye where ever present in there attack and defence, let’s not look too much into the scores, every week there is improvements, a big thank you to John and Bill for playing up a age to help us out, and great try John.
Till next week –
