With only weeks to go Grenfell is busy preparing for what is set to be a huge weekend.
The festival starts on Thursday June 7 with the Art Exhibition Official Opening at the Grenfell Community Hub.
On Friday night he concert at the Henry Lawson High School will showcase the local talent within our shire.
Saturday sees the streets of Grenfell come alive with the street parade, market stalls, wood chop, music and a whole swag of entertainment on the Westlime Main Stage.
The Fun Run takes place on the Saturday morning, starting from Lawson Oval.
Once again you are asked to pre-register for the Fun Run online, applications close Friday June 8.
This years Official Guest is Alison Bell, the committee are excited to have one of Grenfell’s own as the Official Guest for 2018.
Alison spent her early life in Grenfell, moving to Canberra in 1984.
This year’s festival theme is ‘Poetry in Motion’, a phrase that usually refers to movement that can be graceful, smooth, harmonious, flowing, controlled or skilled.
MOVEMENT is the key word – up/down, side to side, back and forward.
We look forward to many interesting procession floats referencing the theme.
On Sunday the festival will host ‘Poetry Readings & Recitals’ at the Obelisk, the site marking Lawson’s birthplace.
There will be a camp fire with damper and billy tea.
The Sunday also features the very popular Car Show in the Main Street.
A guided heritage bus tour, patchwork and quilting exhibitions, sculpture garden and galleries are all open.
Alternately you could take a leisurely drive out to Iandra Castle at Greenethorpe where you can take in the castle’s elegance first hand.
On the Monday you can browse at the Chrysler Car Museum, or the Grenfell Historical Society Museum.
This is just a taste of what you will be in store for when you make your way to Grenfell’s Henry Lawson Festival.
Alan Griffiths, festival president comments, “The festival will continue to be a source of pride for the people of the Weddin Shire!”
