The Scholarships are part of the Suicide Prevention Trial Workforce Capacity Building Project, funded by the Western New South Wales Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN) and run by Western Plains Regional Development in Condobolin. Potential trainees are asked to submit an expression of interest to be accepted into the Scholarship Program.
As well as scholarships, participants will be offered ongoing support from Workforce Training Project Officer Julie Hague to assist with assignments each week and trainee support. Assistance will also be available for computer, travel, phone and fees. The aim of the Program is for communities to end up with residents trained to assist people who may be in crisis and at risk of suicide attempts or to support families in the aftermath of suicide.
“The local government areas nominated have some of the highest incidences of suicide in NSW, this program aims to establish trained frontline responders and have referral pathways in place to ensure people in crisis get the help they need.” said Rebecca Shepherd Senior Project Officer with the Lachlan-Weddin Trial.
“Western Plains Regional Development is really proud to be hosting the Trial for Lachlan-Weddin on behalf of the WNSW PHN,” said Executive Officer Anne Coffey.
“This is a vitally important project to ensure our isolated communities have the services and responses needed to assist people at risk of suicide.”
