Burrangong match
reports, Sunday May 6
League Tag: In the first half of this game, the Girlannas had little trouble cracking the Burrangong defence and led 32 nil at half time after running in 6 tries. The second half was a different story however with the Burrangong girls lifting their game resulting in the Girlannas becoming a bit frustrated and making numerous errors. Grenfell went on to win the match 36-6 but were possibly guilty of taking the foot off the pedal after racing to a match winning lead at half time. Best and fairest points went to Isabelle Holz (3), Breanna Anderson (2), Caitlin Dixon (1) with Breanna also picking up players player. Holly Bowerman and Breanna Anderson each scored a hatrick of tries whereas Isabelle Holz also crossed the stripe and kicked 4 goals from 7 attempts.
First Grade: The Goannas came up against a much improved 2018 version of the Burrangong Bears and after a lackluster start by the visitors they found themselves down 16-4 with 10 minutes to half time. Pete Frazer scored a crucial try for Grenfell just before half time to put them 6 behind at the break. In the second half the Goannas chipped away with 5 tries and one conversion but it was not until the 70th minute that they took control, eventually winning 32-18. This was a tight game with the difference between the two teams being an unbelievable performance by veteran Goannas front rower Pete Frazer who completely dominated the ruck with a number of breaks and metre gaining runs. Pete received the players player and 3 best and fairest points with the other points going to Jarryd Foley (2) and Joe Herden (1). Try Scorers were Steve Taylor, Pete Frazer, Ricky Whitton, Phil Ingram, Sam Ingram, Sebastian Holz, and Josh Edwards with 2 conversions to Mitch Stevens.
