In English students will be learning about Poetry and reciting their poems at the Henry Lawson Festival.
In Science and Technology the children are currently investigating material objects and are exploring critical and creative thinking skills with the help of Captain Disposition!
As always, the school and classrooms are open to members of the community and staff and students look forward to anyone dropping in to see how the school operates.
Towards the end of term 1 students celebrated their hard work by cooking and eating an Asian Feast.
Staff would like to say a big thank you to Mr John Gorman, Jen McNickle, Courtney Gorman and Hollie Forde for organising the food and guiding the children in their cooking.
On the menu was; duck pancakes, fried rice, chicken wonton cups, spring rolls and pork dumplings.
Thanks also goes to Mrs Taylor for sharing her photos and knowledge about Vietnam.
Quote of the day from Sam, “This is the best restaurant I’ve been to!”
Also on April 12 the students enjoyed a visit from Archeologist Sue Hudson who conducted workshops with the children about locating, looking after and understanding Aboriginal artefacts.
Students viewed rocks shaped for specific purposes, used rocks to shape carrots and potato and crushed ochre and printed their hands on the wall.
Sam and Mrs Toole made traditional handprints by putting the ochre in their mouths and spitting onto their hand to make a print.
Also, a tree on the school’s northern boundary was discovered to be a ’scar tree’, Sue thought a shield had been extracted from one side and a coolamon from the other.
Many thanks to Jan and Phil Diprose for introducing Sue to our school and for sharing their knowledge and expertise with staff and students on the day.
On April 25 a number of students, parents and staff attended the Caragabal ANZAC Day service, a big thank you is extended to those who participated. As usual, Helen organised a wonderful service which included the Caragabal Public school leader, Jake Troth, reading the poem, In Flanders Field.
On Friday May 11 students will be competing at the Forbes Small Schools Athletics Carnival at Forbes Public School. Staff wish all those participating the best of luck, as well as an enjoyable day.
Other exciting news is the arrival of the Variety Bash which will be heading to Caragabal on Thursday May 24 and stopping at the Caragabal Country Club.
All community members are welcome to come and have a look at the cars between 12 and 2pm.
The Caragabal Public School P&C will be catering for the huge crowd of over 300 participants and one lucky student and their parent will receive a free joy flight in a helicopter over Caragabal. What a terrific opportunity.
It should be a wonderful day! For more information please contact the school.
During the first two weeks of June, the school will be taking part in the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC), which is a nationwide census of early childhood development and helps the school and the wider community understand how children are developing before they start school, what is being done well, and what can be improved.
The census will be collecting data about the school’s current kindergarten students and parents of these students will have received a letter to this effect.
Again please contact the school if you require further information.
