“We have always offered this free service to our customers,” said Mr Leung “It is a good idea to regularly check your medication and return anything that is either out-of-date or no longer required.”
Stockpiling medicines can become a big safety issue as they potentially pose a huge danger of accidental poisonings, especially in young children, as well as medication mismanagement.
Return Unwanted Medicines - or the RUM Project is a Federal Government funded initiative that provides all Australians with a free and convenient way to dispose of expired and unwanted household medicines by returning them to their local pharmacy.
Grenfell residents can drop their unwanted, expired medication at the local pharmacy each weekday between 9 am and 6 pm or between 9 am – 12 noon on Saturdays, all unwanted medications will be accepted for safe disposal.
The pharmacy, however, do not accept sharps.
For members of the public wishing to drop off sharps they can do so at the Grenfell Hospital BUT they must be in an approved sharps container, these containers are available for purchase from the pharmacy.
For anyone wishing to discuss their medication, health or well being please call into the Grenfell Pharmacy and speak with your local pharmacists Anna Brenner or Tommy Leung who can offer you professional advice.
