Grenfell will be at home for the first time this season on Sunday, April 29 when they host the Canowindra Tigers in League Tag starting at 12.40pm and in First Grade kicking off at 2.00pm.

Our League Tag team have come up with two good wins to start the season whereas the Canowindra ladies will be hoping to open their account for the year.

The First Grade game should be a cracker with both teams starting the year with the bye and two impressive wins apiece.

FIRST TRY SCORER AUCTION/CALCUTTA

Last Friday evening at the Bowling Club our jumper auction was a great success.

The result is that the owner of the jumper of the first try scorer at home games will receive $140 for League Tag and $190 for First Grade.

A massive thanks to Rob Anderson of CJ Anderson & Co. who gave up his time to run the auction and whose experience enabled the smooth running and success of the night.

BOWLING CLUB MEMBERS

The Grenfell Bowling Club along with Southwest Fuel and Grenfell Commodities are Major Sponsors of the Goannas and the Girlannas.

We receive excellent support from the committee, Staff and patrons of the Bowling Club and would like to show our appreciation by offering Bowling Club members a 50% discount on the gate entry fee for our home games this season.

Members who are pensioners will only require a gold coin for gate entry.

To obtain these discounts members will need to show their membership cards at the gate and the discounts will not apply to Finals games as they are run by the board of the Woodbridge Cup.

MANILDRA GAME REPORTS

Grenfell travelled out to Manildra last Sunday and came away from Jack Huxley Oval with two good wins.

League Tag won 18 6 and the First Grade ran out winners 32 26.

LEAGUE TAG

The Girlannas were down 6 nil at half time after a mistake riddled 30 minutes of footy.

They were able to regroup at the break and came back in the second thirty with a reduced error count and better rhythm.

In an impressive second stanza our tries were scored by Breanna Anderson, Holly Bowerman, Caitlin Dixon, and Chloe Madgwick with Isabelle Holz kicking one conversion.

Best and fairest points went to Rachel Causer (3), Breanna Anderson (2), and Chloe Madgwick (1) with Abby Joyce picking up the players player.

FIRST GRADE

Grenfell scored first after a tight start when Phil Ingram sliced through and Mitchell Stevens converted.

At half time Manildra led 10 6 after 40 minutes of high standard and physical rugby league.

As with the previous week the Goannas had a good first 20 minutes of the second half piling on 20 points and skipping away to what appeared to be a match winning lead of 26 10.

With a glut of possession and a vocal crowd behind them Manildra came back into the match with a couple of tries to be 6 behind and 10 minutes left on the clock.

Dan Harveyson calmed the nerves of the visitors when he scored next to the posts with 5 to go and Manildra finished with a consolation try in the 80th minute.

Try Scorers were Dan Harveyson (2), Ricky Whitton (2), Phil Ingram, and Joe Herden with Mitchell Stevens piloting over 4 conversions.

Dan Harveyson picked up the players player as well as 2 points in the Best & Fairest with the other points going to Tye Ashe (3) and Pete Frazer (1).

An excellent start to the 2018 season for the Grenfell  Goannas Rugby League Football Club.
