The workshop will take place at the Grenfell Bowling Club on Tuesday May 8 from 10am – 4pm.
Why not come along and join in with Weddin Landcare’s FREE Weed Biocontrol workshop with Barry Sampson, an expert in weeds and their control agents.
Barry Sampson has had 30 years experience in the Biological Control of Weeds with NSW Agriculture, CSIRO and other bodies and he is now supplying agents for weeds including Patersons Curse, Bridal Creeper, St. John's Wort, Blackberry, Docks, Thistles, Horehound, Prickly Pear and more.
Biological control is used to reduce the cost of controlling weeds so they can be manageable long term.
The concept of weed biological control is to reduce seed banks, it is to be viewed as a long term measure.
The density and vigor of plants can be reduced over time and the measure of success is to have a good integrated management program.
With biological control one of the main aims is to try to reduce the cost of control of weeds so they can be can be more manageable in the long term.
As we all are aware many weeds are a huge problem and if they can be reduced the problem is more manageable. Areas of land where terrain is rough lends itself well as other practices of control are too expensive or unsafe.
The workshop will cover all agents on site. Barry will update the progress and success of Weed biocontrol and will be available to answer any questions.
Attendees are asked to wear sturdy footwear for the field trip
Barry has held many successful workshops over the past few years and will again be bringing his expertise to share about possible biological control solutions for specific weeds in our area.
The Weed Biocontrol workshop will cover:
*How biological control works
*Weeds and their specific biocontrol agents
*How to intergrate biocontrol into a management program and
*Paddock walk and ID session
As mentioned the workshop is free and lunch will be provided.
