Upcoming matches: This Sunday we travel to Manildra to take on the strong Rhinos club in League Tag at 12.40pm with First Grade starting at 2.00pm. The following Sunday (29th April) sees our first home game for the season when we host the Canowindra Tigers.
Condobolin match reports: Last Sunday we travelled to Condobolin for our first games of the season to be greeted by the nearly completed million dollar redevelopment of Pat Timmins Oval. Due to this, we had to operate from the eastern side of the ground and use the dressing sheds of the adjacent netball courts. Special thanks to Condo for hosting these games as it did not suit Grenfell to have them transferred to Lawson Park.
League Tag: The Girlannas had a convincing 28 nil win over a Ramettes team who had been showing some good early season form. In a clinical display reminiscent of the last two seasons, the Girlannas based their game on a strong defence forcing the opposition into errors and then taking their opportunities in attack. Zoe Gavin crossed for our opening two tries with the other try scorers being Nat Makin, Chloe Madgwick, Caitlin Dixon, and Chelsea Anderson. Isabelle Holz knocked over two conversions and the best and fairest points went to Chloe Madgwick (3), Caitlin Dixon (2), and 1 point and players’ player to Casey Hewen.
First Grade: After a scrappy first half by both teams where they traded six pointers Grenfell and Condo went to oranges at 18 apiece. Grenfell did look the more dangerous in the first half and when they held onto the ball in the twenty minutes after halftime, they took the game away from Condo by putting on a quick-fire 34 points. The Goannas went on to win the match 62 to 24 with tries to Sam Ingram, Stephen Ingram, Phil Ingram, Josh Liebich and Ben Abbott in his comeback match was our opening try scorer. Doubles were scored by Dan Harveyson, Mena Aditagane, and Ty Ashe with Mitch Stevens kicking one conversion and Phil Ingram piloting over 8 from 10. Best and fairest points went to players’ player Ty Ashe (3), Dan Harveyson (2), and Sam Ingram the one point.
