We have been doing lots of hands on painting activities that involved concentration and precision.
These sorts of activities enable students to develop hand eye coordination, motor planning and collaborative skills which all relate back to skills required in the 21st Century classroom.
Each student has also been working on building 3D models of various prisms. These are displayed in the classroom and look amazing!
3/4-In Year 3/4 we are investigating geology and rocks as part of our scientific enquiry. The students always show a great interest and high level of engagement in science and this unit is no exception.
Some of the students have produced works of great detail in explaining the tools required by a geologist and all students are amazed at the variety of different types of rocks that there are.
We are currently attempting to identify types of rocks (sedimentary, metamorphic or igneous) from those we have collected using a chart of identifiable characteristics.
5/6-In Year 5/6 we have been studying bushfires as part of our geographical inquiry.
We have participated in a survey to ascertain our entering knowledge about bushfires and we have viewed a variety of resources from several different mediums to discover some of the impacts of bushfires.
Part of our inquiry has included decisions made about which bushfires could be classed as the most devastating based on statistics in tabular form which sparked heated discussion-should stock losses be considered?
Loss of property, infrastructure?
All agreed that loss of life was the most devastating factor.
