The Greenethorpe Soldiers’ Memorial Hall was transformed into a Las Vegas Casino, as guests indulged in delicious food and wine, all while dancing the night away to the sounds of local band, The New Normal, and trying to hit the jackpot in the monster raffle and auction.
“Not only is this the main fundraising event for the Greenethorpe Soldiers’ Memorial Hall, it is also a terrific opportunity for the local community to get together for a fun night before the sowing season starts” said event organiser, Danielle Allen. “The evening was a huge success. The money raised on the night not only exceeded our expectations, but more importantly, all guests kicked their heels up and had a great time. We would like to thank all guests who attended, and most importantly our sponsors, GrainCorp, Elders, NSW Farmers, Tyrrell’s Wines and WFI.” “We are also very grateful to the over 30 local businesses who donated fantastic goods to our raffle and auction.”
The Hall Committee continues to raise funds for their much anticipated external War Memorial. The aim of the project is to create a special area outside of the Hall where family and friends can stop and remember those whom have served our country, even when the Hall is closed.
With people travelling from the local towns of Cowra, Grenfell, and Young, and some people making the journey from Sydney, Mudgee, Bathurst, Wollongong and beyond, there was a mixture of celebrity look a likes, dancing gals, gangsters, tourists, croupiers and at least six Elvis look a likes. Best dressed male was won by Mark Bryant from Kiama and best dressed female was won by Ainslee Stoney from Young. The strong community spirit for the village of Greenethorpe, combined with fun and entertaining atmosphere on the night, made this an event not to be missed.
