Mr Moffitt said, “On behalf of the local development committee I would like to thank the state government and also the council for making this possible.
“Our committee is part of the development of this wonderful town and this unique main street and anything to revitalise the main street and bring further business to the town is something we really have to embrace and this money is a part of it and we really have to keep it going and develop, develop, develop.”
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said “It is wonderful to be here in Grenfell to announce the first round of the Stronger Country Community Fund.
“How wonderful it is to be here with the community of Grenfell and in the process handing over a cheque for well over $700,000 to mayor Mark Liebich, this will go a long way to revitalising Main Street here in Grenfell,
“It is a beautiful, historic main street with so many wonderful businesses and to think this money will be able to go toward an upgrade that will bring new businesses to town and will bring visitors to this community and really up the community pride for the people of Grenfell, it’s a very proud day and I’m very happy to be here.”
Cr Liebich was in attendance along with fellow councillors and shire general manager Glenn Carroll who were excited to receive the large sum allocated to the town’s main street upgrade.
“I would just like to thank you very much Steph and the state government for the money that we’ve been given,” Cr Liebich said.
“This will help to revitalise stage one of Main Street which will be the top end of our main street to start with, the plan is to take the footpaths out further to give people more room to walk, to stop the cars from backing into veranda posts, to make it easier to cross the street for our elderly people in the community and to try and bring people into the community to help our local businesses.”
Ms Cooke also mentioned that Weddin Shire has been allocated a further $1,537,964 under Round 2 of the Stronger Country Community Fund, that will be announced later this year, which was the second highest allocation for a shire within her electorate.
