Event organisers Toby Barons and Sarah Knowles have smashed their target of $10,000 during last week’s Cargo2Grenfell fundraiser walk for beyondblue after collecting over $12,500 for the mental health charity.

Toby and Sarah came up with the idea of holding an annual fundraiser walk last year and have again coordinated a successful walk with sixteen participants registering for the 2018 event, which also included nine volunteer support persons.
Toby and Sarah were overwhelmed with the support received by the communities of Cargo, Canowindra, Gooloogong and Grenfell.
“We are truly grateful for the sacrifice and commitment to all who directly and indirectly were involved with the walk. It was because of the volunteers, participants, public donations and generosity of local businesses that this event was made possible, for the overwhelming support Sarah and I received whilst coordinating this event - we are extremely thankful,” said Toby. “We would also like to thank the Cargo Inn, Canowindra Hotel and Gooloogong Hotel for their hospitality.”

The walk started on Thursday, March 8, at Cargo where sixteen walkers began the 97km trek. The first overnight stop was in Canowindra. With an early start on Friday the group headed for Gooloogong. Saturday saw the last stretch of the trek with participants arriving in Grenfell between 3 – 6pm.
Sarah Knowles and Andy Panton finished first together on day one and two with Andy securing the fastest overall time of 14 hours and 43 minutes upon completion of the three day walk. Blake Barons and Chelsea Anderson were the first to cross the finish line at the Grenfell Country Club on day three with the remaining participants eagerly making their way towards the line.
Many of these walkers tested their endurance crossing the finish line with bloodied feet, aching muscles and complete exhaustion. They are all to be commended for their outstanding efforts.
Following the finish of the walk on day three the participants, support crew, family, friends and members of the community gathered for a celebration and presentation of awards at the Country Club. Special awards handed out on the night were ‘The chief" awarded to Andy Panton for leadership and encouragement, ‘Most determined’ to Craig Millynn, ‘Superstar’ to Blake Barons and ‘Eldest participant’ to Stephen Heatley.
Toby and Sarah wish to sincerely thank the 2018 participants as well as their fantastic support crew, they hope to see everyone back for an even bigger and brighter event in 2019.
