David purchased his tickets after a reminder from his grandmother, Joan McSpadden, prior to his departure to Thailand. David who had worked in Ammartpanichanukul School in Krabi teaching science in English, returned for a visit in early February to see his former students.
Last week President Chris Moran had the pleasure of presenting a cheque for $10000 to Jenny and Ian Armstrong on behalf of their son David. Jenny promised us she would not spend it. Other members of the club were also there for presentations.
Sincere thanks to the business houses of Grenfell; The Grenfell Meat Barn, Chris’ Bakery, South West Fuels, The Tin Cupboard, the Railway, Royal, Criterion and Albion Hotels and the Grenfell Bowling Club who have the bright yellow boxes in their establishments – Lions Mini Lotto would not be as successful as it is without your support. Thank you to Reid’s Hardware who have been selling tickets in Mini Lotto since its inception and to Kath and Wayne Holz of Grenfell Furniture and Whitegoods in Main Street who now have a mini lotto box in their store.
The Grenfell Lions Club wish to thank everyone who supports their mini lotto, through your generosity the club continues to support local and Lion’s charities.
Lions Assist Students: The Henry Lawson High School students Connor Day, Joshua Pargeter, Paige Hughes and Henry Best attended the 2018 Western Band Camp from February 18 - 23 at Lake Burrendong. Following a request for assistance to attend this camp, the Grenfell Lions Club assisted each of the students on their excursion with a donation of $200.
The students said that they learnt so many things from the tutorials which they can now apply to their HSC performance pieces and have become more confident in playing. The camp has provided Connor and Paige with the opportunity to play in the State Wind Band in June at the Sydney Opera House. The students thanked their music teacher Brodie Mcknight for organising and driving them to the camp and the Lions for their financial assistance.
Principal of THLHS Ian Pattingale also thanked the Lions Club for their amazing support of the students. Mr Pattingale said, “Next time you see Lions fundraising, please support them, as they have a huge impact on our students and the community.”
Secretary of the Grenfell Lions Club Terry Carroll made the presentation to the students.
Guest Speaker: The Grenfell Lions Club was delighted have Belinda Bourne-Wilson as guest speaker following her trip to the Audiometrist Convention.
Belinda is an Audiometrist/Primary Health Care Nurse at the Grenfell Community Health. Grenfell Club sponsored Belinda to attend the clinic.
Belinda gave a very detailed and interesting report of the benefits she gained by attending the Convention and demonstrated how important it is to have children tested at an early age to detect any problems. She also said it was important that older persons be tested and uses their aids as directed.
Belinda also addresses the problem on falls prevention as we get older. She advised those present of the importance of balance and exercising and practicing to stay focused. Belinda answered questions from the floor and thanked the Club for their outstanding support. President Chris Moran presented Belinda with a small gift and a certificate of appreciation.
