Seven teams are taking part in the 2018 Mixed Teams Night Tennis Competition which got underway on Wednesday, February 21. The competition was to have commenced on Wednesday night, February 14, however due to many players taking part were unavailable, the first round was stalled for another week.

All matches played on Wednesday night were very close with only a couple of games the difference when the final count of games won were made.
Team 1, The Lone Rangers consisting of Craig Johnson, Paul Lynch, Nerida Feeney and Leanne Livingstone defeated Team 2, Odds and Sods 33 games to 31. Team members of Odds and Sods are Stuart McKellar, Andrew Brown, Hillary McKellar and Courtney Taylor. This match resulted in keen and competitive tennis in all sets.
Team 3, Rollsies Rabble consisting of Trent McCann, Lewis Keogh, Lyndell Rolls and Temeika Rolls also had a narrow win over Team 4, Coppsies Floppsies 33 games to 31. Team members of Coppsies Floppsies are Danny Joyce, Peter Mitton, Lyn Peterson and Jan Myers. This match also produced very competitive tennis. Team 5, Bogalong and Beyond consisting of Charles Mitton, Michael Mitton, Sally Mitton and Esma Baker went down to Team 6, The Young Guns, Jaykob Gavin, Matthew Clarke, Alicia White and Cassie Griffin 29 games to 35 games. This match saw very good tennis and both teams will be hard to hold out when it comes to the final rounds.
The other team taking part in the competition, Team 7, Walkers Not Runners had the bye. Team members are Ben Walker, Steve Walker, Tracey Walker and Emily Cartwright. Round 2 of the Mixed Teams Night Competition will be played next Wednesday, February 28, weather permitting.
EDWARDS AND FISHER ROMP IN MEN'S TENNIS
Round 3 of the Men's No 2 Summer Night Tennis Competition was played on Tuesday which resulted in a big win by Grahame Edwards and Grant Fisher, winning the very high score of 31 games. Grahame and Grant playing top tennis only dropped 9 games for the night, they won their sets, 5/3, 6/2, 7/1, 6/2, 7/1. Well done men. Next best players were Charles Harvey and Pat Hazell who won 25 games for the round.
They went down 3/5 in the first set against the top pair, but then went on to win 6/2, 5/3, 5/3, 6/2, another fine effort. Lewis Keogh, filling in for Danny Edwards played with Mark Liebich to win 18 games for the round. Sets were 5/3, 2/6, 3/5, 2/6, 6/2. Just a game behind, winning 17 were Graham Watt and John Walmsley and their sets were 3/5, 5/3, 5/3, 3/5, 1/7.
Andrew Bucknell and Arnold Brown battled away in their tennis to win 15 games, while the other pair taking part, Anthony Wilson and his fill-in for Hugh Moffitt, Ben Walker managed to win 14 games. Hugh has not been taking part in the competition owing to injury to his back.
QUIZ NIGHT
Our famous Annual Quiz Night is looming up and will be held at the Country Club on Thursday night, March 8- please take note of change of date. If you have not already entered your team, well time is running out so get busy and organize your team now. Teams consist of 8 contestants, however, smaller teams will be catered for. The cost is $10 per person. A tasty supper will be provided following the quiz session.
Entries can be lodged with Danny Joyce 6343 2081. A reminder to tennis and golfers and interested persons that the Annual General Meeting of the Country Club will be held at the club next Monday night, February 26 at 6 pm.
