To make the final, Graeme’s team had wins against Tom Furey’s team from Parkes B & SC in the first round and Canowindra in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Then on Sunday they eliminated a Grenfell team skippered by Barry Jones in the semi-finals.
All the lead-up games were exciting with Graeme and the boys clinching a win on the last end. The final, against another Parkes B & SC team skippered by Col Hayward, was no exception.
Halfway through the match Grenfell were down 8-1 and things didn’t look too good. But through sheer tenacity they clawed their way back into the game and the score was locked at 16-16 after 20 ends. Parkes held three shots when skipper Graeme, with the last bowl of the match, produced a super effort to find the jack and secure a two-shot win,18-16. Well done! The team will now play the section 3 winners – a Bathurst City team skippered by Phil Gray – at Orange on Saturday. Best of luck!
