Ms Morley comes to Grenfell with a wealth of experience, much of it spent at Forbes North Public School where she has taught for most of her 31 years.
Prior to making the move to Grenfell she had been an assistant principal at Forbes North since 2003.
“It was a dream to be principal of a school over the last couple of years,” Ms Morley said.
Prior to realising that dream Ms Morley has acted as relieving principal at Middleton Public School in Parkes for 12 months in 2012 and last year in the same position for seven months at Forbes North.
A graduate of the University of New England in Armidale, Ms Morley said she has also taught at Tulligibeal Central School, Forbes Public, Lake Cargelligo and Condobolin, where she did some casual teaching, and at Mandagery in 1988.
“Then I was at Middleton Public School for six years before going back to Forbes where I had my first baby,” Ms Morley said.
“My youngest daughter just finished the HSC and is off to Wollongong to university, she wants to be a lawyer, and I was now mobile so I applied for this job.
“I’d been here a couple of times last year and thought, what a beautiful school, so I applied and couldn’t believe it when I was so lucky to get the job,” Ms Morley said.
Improving outcomes for the students is high on Ms Morley’s list of priorities this year but any changes to the school are likely to be subtle.
Before making any changes “I’d like to see how things operate,” Ms Morley said.
“Maybe some subtle things.
“I want to improve our outcomes for the students, improve their results.
“I just want to get the run of the land to start with.
“The staff are beautiful and I’ve met the children today (Tuesday), they’re lovely and very curious about me.
“It’s fantastic, I’m just really excited to be here.
“Everyone has been really welcoming, Brent and Monica, the assistant principals, have been so fantastic, supporting and helpful to get me started.”
“We’re going to build a house here, I’d like to be part of the community and get involved in things that are happening,” Ms Morley said.
For new librarian/stage 3 teacher Hannah Robinson, returning to Grenfell Public School in just her second year of teaching is realisation of one of her ultimate goals.
Ms Robinson attended the school before going on to high school and studying for her teaching degree at Charles Sturt University Bathurst.
Her first year as a teacher was spent at Forbes Public School before she applied successfully for her new role in her home town.
