Accepting her award at a ceremony in Taylor Park on Friday morning Meryl said “like the other nominees there are a lot of people in Grenfell like me”.
“I see them at the churches, the food hall, the HAA meetings and other meetings, I see them at the Gunyah and the Christian Bookshop, I also see them volunteering on street stalls.
“I am just one of them and I do feel I am representing them here this morning,” Meryl said.
Her philosophy is: “If you want something done, ask a busy person”.
Meryl has been a member of the Grenfell Hospital Auxiliary since 1969.
During 48 years of service, she has been Secretary, Treasurer, President and is currently Patron.
Meryl assists with fund raising street stalls several times each year and commenced the “lolly trolley” in 2002 at the MPS.
She is still on that roster for bringing toiletries and treats to the residents.
Meryl saw the need for a support group for carers of people with dementia and initiated meetings in her own home.
Meryl is Patron of the Senior Citizens Welfare Committee, Vice President of the “Gunyah” and is on the roster two days a month, she is also a proud member of the Grenfell Presbyterian Church.
