It was necessary to organise six fill-ins to allow Round 10 of the Men’s Spring Tennis Competition to go ahead on Tuesday night.

Two of these fill-ins, Matthew Clarke and Danny Edwards played good consistent tennis to top score with a total of 28 games.

Matthew was filling in for Danny Joyce, while Danny filled in for Rod Freudenstein.

The two players won four of their five sets in fine style 5/3, 6/2, 7/1, 6/2 and levelled the other set 4 all against Andrew Bucknell and his fill-in for Pat Hazell, Steven Brown who was having his first game with the men.

Graham Watt who was a fill-in for Charles Harvey and Lewy Keogh who was a fill-in for Hugh Moffitt also played keen competitive tennis to win a total of 26 games.

They won their first set in easy fashion 6/2 then went down 2/6 against the top pair Matthew Clarke and Danny Edwards.

They went back on to win their last three sets 6/2, 6/2, 6/2.

Andrew Bucknell and Steven Brown played good tennis to win three of their sets 6/2, 6/2, 7/1, levelled the third set 4/4 and lost the fourth set 2/6 to win a total of 25 games.

Grant Fisher, filling in for Stuart McKellar and John Walmsley battled away in their tennis to win a total of 14 games and alike, Grahame Edwards and Mark Liebich won a total of 13 games for the round.

The other pair playing in Round 10, Leigh Taylor and Arnold Brown had little luck, however they did have a very close battle in two of their sets, going down narrowly 3/5, 3/5.

The men who now have just two more rounds to play to finalise the Spring Competition will play Round 11 next Tuesday night, November 21, weather permitting. 

Ladies’ Spring tennis finalised

The Ladies’ 2017 Spring Night Tennis Competition has been finalised.

This competition attracted 16 ladies and all ladies taking part thoroughly enjoyed their tennis.

Alicia White, playing very keen and competitive tennis was the winner of the A group with a total of 216 games- congratulations Alicia.

Alicia won the A group narrowly from Esma Baker who won a total of 206 games.

In the B group, Abbey Joyce emerged the winner with a total of 187 games, while her sister, Hannah was runner-up winning 182 games.

Congratulations also to Abbey and to all the other ladies who helped to make the competition such an enjoyable event.

Following the tennis the ladies enjoyed refreshments and supper and during which Lyndell Rolls presented the winners of the Spring competition with their prizes.

On Tuesday night, 13 ladies turned up for a social tennis night and this will continue for the time being commencing at around 7.30 pm- any lady wishing to have a friendly game are most welcome to join in.

Street Stalls

The Tennis Centre will be holding street stalls on Friday and Saturday, December 22 and 23.

Saleable goods and help at the stalls will be greatly appreciated.

In conjunction with the street stalls, a Christmas Hamper will be raffled.
