The song was co-written during the recent ‘Song-writing for Wellbeing’ program where participants were assisted in writing and recording an original song. The program aimed to increase connectedness between generations focusing on mental health and wellbeing, predominantly in males. The group was assisted by the very talented Abby Smith of Smith & Jones fame who attended workshops with students from THLHS, music teacher Mr Brodie McKnight, members of the Mens’ Shed and Clrs Carly Brown and Jan Parlett to write and record a song.
Special guests at the launch included Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke, Weddin Shire Mayor Mark Liebich, Di Gill from Community Health and Tracey Callinan Executive Director of Arts OutWest.
Students Ethan Reid, Connor Day and Jesse Thompson-Jones welcomed the audience and explained what the journey had meant to them. Di Gill then praised the group for their outstanding success touching on such an intimate subject.
A film clip of the recording, produced by Kris Schubert who was assisted by THLHS student and assistant producer Jackson Chapman, was then officially launched to the delight of all those in attendance.
Phillip Diprose, president of the Mens’ Shed, along with Tracey Callinan, then addressed the crowd and thanked all those involved in the project.
Vice principal Mr Brad Robinson said how proud he was of the outcome and what a tremendous success the project was. You can hear the recording via the Arts OutWest Facebook page at www.facebook.com/artsoutwest/.
