Up against a paid professional city team from Cabramatta, Steve and his team held their own for a while, and were six shots all after several ends. Eventually, though, they succumbed to the slick city side to go down 31-15.
They may have been beaten, but it is indeed a great effort for a small-town country amateur team to even make it to the State finals. Well done boys, you have nothing to be ashamed of and everything to be proud of.
Club Championships: No first-round matches have been played yet in the Club’s Mixed Pairs and Mixed Fours competitions. The draws are on the notice board and teams are asked to arrange their matches by mutual agreement and play them as soon as they can.
Major/Minor pairs teams are also urged to complete their next matches without delay.
Social Bowls: Bowlers have been enjoying the fine weather and the greens are looking great after the recent rain. On Wednesday, chook winners were Greg Fanning and George Dumbrell, Market Night vouchers, Rodney O’Neill and Steve Galvin, and free games, Nev Coleman and Gary Pipe.
On Friday, Greg Fanning picked up another chook, while Clive Anderson won a Market Night voucher and John Joyce a free game. Then on Sunday chooks went to Gary Pipe and Dennis Fuller, vouchers to Barry Butler and Lindsay Ballard and free games to Barry Jones and Nev Coleman.
Canowindra Presidents Day:Grenfell was well-represented at Canowindra on Sunday when that club staged its annual Presidents Day.
Two triples teams comprising Robbie Coleman, Dave Hancock and Rob Chambers in one team and Kerry Aston, Scottie Baker and Rodney (Rocket) O’Neill in the other, made the trip and from all accounts a great day was had by all.
Jackpot: You needed a score of +4 on end 10, on an even rink, to claim this week’s jackpot of $213. There were no winners, which means the jackpot next week will be worth $257.
