Alicia White and Hannah Joyce were in smashing tennis form when they outplayed their opposition to win the grand total of 34 games at Tuesday night’s round of the Ladies Spring Comp. Alicia and Hannah won their sets 5/1, 6/0, 4/2, 5/1, 5/1, 3/3, 6/0- a very convincing result for the two ladies.

Cassie Griffin and Margo Taylor were the next best players, winning a total of 25 games after sets of 4/2, 0/6, 5/1, 5/1, 5/1, 4/2, 2/4. Sandra Matthews and Maria Neill were next best winning a total of 22 games. Three pairs finished the round, winning a total of 20 games. They were Sally Mitton and Abbey Joyce, Leanne Livingstone and Tracey Walker and Esma Baker and Sharon Eppelstun. Lynne Peterson and her sub for Temeika Rolls, Jan Myers won 18 games for the round, while Lyndell Rolls and Courtney Taylor battled away in their sets to capture a total of 10 games. The ladies will now play their next round on Tuesday night of next week.
Watt and Wilson outplay opposition: Round 6 of the Men’s Spring Competition was played on Tuesday night which saw two fill-ins, Graham Watt and Anthony Wilson in devastating form to win the massive total of 35 games. Graham was a fill-in for Charles Harvey while Anthony filled in for Mark Liebich. The two players won their sets 8/0, 7/1, 7/1, 8/0 5/3, dropping only 5 games for the five sets played- a commanding effort. Danny Joyce and Danny Edwards won 27 games for the round. They won all their sets except their second set which they went down 1/7 against the top pair, Graham Watt and Anthony Wilson. The two Danny's’ went on to win their other four sets in great style, 7/1, 5/3, 7/1, 7/1. Danny Edwards was a fill-in for Pat Hazel.
Leigh Taylor and his fill-in for Hugh Moffitt, Grant Fisher won 20 games. They both played consistent tennis to win three of their sets, 5/3, 5/3, 6/2 and went down 1/7, 3/5. Andrew Bucknell and John Walmsley battled away in their sets to win 14 games after scores of 3/5, 3/5, 3/5, 0/8, 5/3, while Stuart McKellar and Rod Freudenstein managed to win 13 games for the night. Grahame Edwards and Arnold Brown did not have much luck to win 11 games. The men will now play Round 7 next Tuesday night.
Social Tennis: Several tennis players have been turning up for a hit at social tennis on Thursday afternoon. However, with the afternoons warming up, it was decided by the organisers to change play from the afternoon to Thursday morning, commencing at 9am.
