Weddin Rural Fire Services are asking property owners to ensure hazard reduction burns are properly extinguished after a fire erupted at the Bimbi Mill last week.

Weddin Rural Fire Services were called to the fire last week.
According to Weddin RFS the fire appears to have started from a hazard reduction burn which had not been properly extinguished causing a delayed flare up.
With the extreme weather on the day, Monday, September 25, the fire quickly took hold and spread to fuel drums on the premises that caused explosions.
RFS are reminding Weddin Shire residents that all fires must be extinguished correctly including any stumps or sticks that may be lying beneath the surface.
To reduce the risk of fires damaging or destroying life, property and the environment the NSW RFS Commissioner may declare a Total Fire Ban.
A total fire ban means no fires out in the open.
No general purpose hot works, such as welding or gas cutting can be done in the open.
The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property.
Under certain conditions, the NSW RFS may issue a Harvest Safety Alert.
