Sixteen ladies have commenced their 2017 Spring Night Tennis Competition. The first round was played on Tuesday night, September 19 and organisers of the competition are very pleased with the number of players taking part. Because of the number of ladies playing, six games is played in each set. The ladies play seven sets for the round.

The Spring Competition is divided into A and B Divisions and the winners of Round 1 were Alicia White (A) and Tracey Walker (B). In Round 2, Esma Baker (A) and Abbey Joyce (B) were the winners. They won a total of 28 games after scores of 3/3, 4/2, 5/1, 4/2, 6/0, 3/3, 3/3. Next best players were Leanne Livingstone and Hannah Joyce and Alicia White and Temeika Rolls with both pairs winning a total of 26 games. Other scores were Lynne Peterson and Margo Taylor 17 games, Sally Mitton and Courtney Taylor 25 games, Lyndell Rolls and Maria Neill 13 games, Sandra Matthews and Sharon Eppelstun 14 games and Cassie Griffin and Tracey Walker 20 games. The ladies will play Round 3, weather permitting next Tuesday night, October 3.
Bucknell and Edwards on fire: The men played Round 3 of their Spring Night Tennis Competition on Tuesday and the winners were Andrew Bucknell and Danny Edwards, winning the grand total of 30 games. They were certainly on fire, winning all five sets 6/2, 6/2, 6/2, 7/1, 5/3- a top performance by the two men.
Danny was a fill-in for Mark Liebich. Next best pair was Grahame Edwards and Rod Freudenstein winning a total of 24 games after some very close tennis. Scores were 5/3, 6/2, 5/3, 5/3, 3/5. Their only loss was against Andrew and Danny. Danny Joyce and Hugh Moffitt won a total of 20 games for the round. They enjoyed good competitive tennis, after sets of 3/5, 5/3, 2/6, 5/3, 5/3.
Matthew Clarke a fill-in for Leigh Taylor teamed with Pat Hazell to win 18 games. Sets were 2/6, 2/6, 6/2, 3/5, 5/3. Grant Fisher was a fill-in for Charles Harvey and he played with John Walmsley to win 16 games for the night. Sets were 6/2, 3/5, 3/5, 1/7, 3/5. The other pair, Stuart McKellar and his fill-in for Arnold Brown, Ben Walker battled away in their sets to win 12 games.
Two day tennis coaching clinic: Talented Eppelstun sisters, Alicia White and Cassie Griffin, will be conducting a two day tennis coaching clinic next week for keen local Juniors at the Grenfell Complex.
