The Grenfell Stingers took on Parkes Services United in a hotly contested game last Sunday, August 13.
Both teams were keen to get the win, as we were one game apiece from previous matches.
Grenfell were determined to make a strong start and put some pressure on the opposition early.
Some good passing and well-constructed plays helped us to control the game at times, but Parkes were using the full width of the field to their advantage and were able to get a ball past our keeper Eddie to take the lead.
Grenfell battled on but conceded two more goals to go into the half time break three nil down.
After some stirring words from captain Ben at halftime, Grenfell were still in high spirits and confident they could regain control of the match.
Michael made a strong run, but was unfortunately brought down by a heavy tackle just inside the oppositions box.
It was immediately clear that he had seriously injured himself and play was stopped while we waited for medical services to arrive.
He had suffered a bad shoulder injury and will miss the rest of the season.
We wish him all the best with his recovery.
A determined Mitch volunteered to take the penalty shot and gain retribution for Michael.
He carefully placed the ball and coolly and calmly, completely missed the goal.
There might be a good reason why he normally plays fullback!
Undeterred Grenfell played on and shortly after, some good passing between Aiden and Connor allowed Ethan to get a clear shot at goal, which he capitalised on.
No more goals were scored by either team and the match ended with the final score seeing Parkes win 3-1.
Although the score favoured Parkes Services at the final whistle the Grenfell team should be very proud of their performance showing great sportsmanship and skill.
We retired for a barbie and match review.
Thanks to Grenfell Meat Barn for supplying the snags and The Royal Hotel for the awesome location.
Thanks also to all our loyal supporters who make the effort to get to the games each week.
