OLD BOYS REUNION: Terry and I enjoyed a trip to Queensland in early August to attend a school reunion for the class of 1957 ‘Old Boys’ at St Laurence’s College. On Friday morning the ‘Old Boys’ and their wives attended the school assembly where 1600 students were in attendance.
Two hundred and seventy students were away on a camp on the day. On Saturday evening we attended a banquet dinner, on Sunday a memorial mass remembering former students who are no longer with us was held in the school chapel of Laurence O’Toole followed by morning tea and a Senior Old Boys Luncheon for all years.
On our trip we caught up with friends in Brisbane, family in Murwillumbah, great friends Lesley Barsby (who is not enjoying the best of health) and her sister Jill Norris from Grenfell at Lake Cathie and Megan Rumbel in Port Macquarie, family in Gosford, Sydney and Canberra.
The weather whilst we were away was amazing and a bit of a shock when we returned home early in the week.
BRUCE WESTBROOK: Many people would remember Rev. Bruce Westbrook, who was the Minister of the Uniting Church in Grenfell, for quite a few years.
Bruce was a member of Rotary Club and he and his family were very involved in our town “happenings”.
Sad to say, our much loved former Uniting Church Minister, Rev. Bruce Westbrook passed away last Saturday, surrounded by his family.
I am sure thoughts and prayers, from all who knew Bruce, would go out to Marie, their daughters and families – Safe in God’s care
WHITE RIBBON DAY: Every week in Australia one woman dies as a result of domestic violence. Everyone is invited to help prevent domestic violence by attending a special event on Friday September 15 from 11.30am -1.30pm in the auditorium at The Henry Lawson High School, Grenfell. Special Guest speaker is Angela Barker with her parents Helen and Ian.
Angela Barker is an inspirational young woman who grew up in rural Victoria. At age 16 Angela was brutally physically assaulted by her ex-boyfriend and suffered severe brain damage.
The prognosis was she would remain in a vegetative state for the rest of her life. Now age 32, through continuous therapy, ongoing operations and Angela’s strength and determination, she continues to inspire everyone with her ongoing recovery.
Angela educates communities on healthy relationships and promotes anti-violence messages, talking to thousands of students, men, women, workers and Politicians.
